Early Goal Directed Therapy in Severe Sepsis and Septic Shock
Lee Dae-Sang

Park Chi-Min
Abstract
Previously, goal-directed therapy has been used for severe sepsis and septic shock in the intensive care. However, these approaches did not show the improvement of survival of severe sepsis patient. In a landmark article published in 2001, patients with severe sepsis presenting to an ED were more likely to survive when treated with a multifaceted protocol called early goal-directed therapy (EGDT). With EGDT, a reduction in mortality of over 16% was shown over standard care. Since the EGDT study was published, many validation studies were performed and all study showed the improvement of survival. In this review, we reviewed the important point of each goals and the problem related to the compliance of EGDT
